Requiem for Auschwitz

The Requiem for Auschwitz was completed in 2009 by Roger Moreno Rathgeb after ten years of work. After a visit to the memorial site in Auschwitz in 1998, he decided to set up a polyphonic musical memorial to the victims and taught himself classical composition specifically for this purpose. Up to now, he has composed over 160 songs in various styles and 16 classical works.
He was born in Zurich in 1956, as the son of a Swiss and a Sintiza, and now lives in the Dutch town of Vaals at the border to Germany and Belgium. He began his professional career as a composer and musician at the age of 15 with first paid gigs as a guitarist and drummer.

The impressive choral and orchestral work had its premiere in Amsterdam in May 2012. It will be performed by the international Roma and Sinti Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of Riccardo M. Sahiti. The vocal soloists and the choirs vary depending on the place of performance.
