Mena Jonuz
Mena Jonuz (b. December 16, 1938 in Skopje, Macedonia) survived the German occupation of Macedonia as a child. Many members of her family became victims of persecution. She describes her flight from the occupiers, the Albanian and German fascists, her family’s struggle for survival in the cold winter in the mountains, and the painful loss of her brother. Mena Jonuz comes from a wealthy Romani family that also faced looting of their property during the war.
Together with her daughters, she migrated to Cologne in 1967 to join her husband Sefedin Jonuz.
She was also involved in Rom e.V. and supported the protests of the right to stay movement as well as the Romani women’s organization.
