Nizaqete Bislimi-Hošo
Nizaqete Bislimi reads from her book: “Through the wall – from asylum seeker to lawyer”, which she published in 2016. The reading took place as part of Romnja Power Month, which takes place annually from 8.3, Feminist Struggle Day, to 8.4, International Romani people Day.
Nizaqete Bislimi is a lawyer in Essen with a focus on the law of foreigners and asylum. In 1993, she fled Kosovo with her family to escape the war and discrimination and fought for years to stay in Germany. She studied law in Bochum and was the first person with a toleration in North Rhine-Westphalia to be accepted as a trainee lawyer. Today, she herself advocates for people without residence rights in court and is politically active for the recognition of Roma refugees. She is the chairwoman of the Federal Roma Association.
